Hopkins, Belize Travel Guide
The peaceful Hopkins Village is situated further south along the coast near the village of Sittie River, off the Southern highway and about 25 minutes south of Dangriga. The sleepy seaside retreat lures visitors with 12 miles of white beach, among the best in the country. If you want to see an authentic Garifuna culture this is the place to visit.
Attractions and Activities
Hopkins has become a popular destination in Belize in recent years. Whether you want to relax at the beach, eat fresh sea food, do water sports like kayak or swim or take a day tour to the rainforest, Hopkins has plenty to do. Many day tours available from Dangriga also operate from Hopkins. Attractions such as Mayflower Bocawina National Park, and Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary await you less than an hour away.
Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary
A sanctuary in the Maya Mountains for the endangered jaguar. Cockscomb Basin Wildlife trail network that is the most extensive of any other National Parks in Belize. The best time to spot a jaguar is at dusk or dawn; other type of cats you can see are margay, jaguarandi, ocelot and puma. It is also a bird watching heaven with over 300 hundred different species of birds.
The Placencia peninsula has some of the best beaches on mainland Belize. The town of Placencia is a Creole fishing village. A great destination to get to know the Creole culture, food and people. You can do day tours or just relax at the beach and then head into town to visit on of the restaurants, bars or art galleries.
Also known as “The Culture Capital”, Dangriga is the largest town in southern Belize. With a mix of diverse people and culture, is home to some of Belize’s most innovative musical forms and sporting activities. This small fishing village preserve the Garifuna Culture and is popular for its music, here you can even learn drumming in a local drumming center.

Hopkins is located at 180km/112mi from Belize City, the closest international airport is the Philip S. W. Goldson. You can reach Hopkins by land or you can flight to Dangriga from Belize city and then take a car transfer to Hopkins.
